Eglin Air Force Base comprises more than 724 square miles along the coast of the Gulf of Mexico. Aside from its importance to maintaining national security, the base is an essential part of the Valparaiso community.
The presence of Eglin Air Force Base is felt strongly in Valparaiso in a number of different ways. First and foremost, there are all of the incredible flying machines you can see maneuvering in the skies above town! The base is host to an array of extraordinary aircraft, such as the F-16 Fighting Falcon, C-130 Hercules and the B-52G Bomber.
Eglin Air Force Base features an officially-recognized Historic Place within its walls — the McKinley Climatic Laboratory. The lab can create all sorts of extreme weather conditions, simulating the kind of extreme conditions real pilots experience. Aircraft go through tests involving temperatures as low as -80 degrees and as hot as 170 degrees. Although the lab has been operating since 1947, it was added to the US Register of National Places in 1997.
As each Air Force Base has its specialty, Eglin focuses on testing and evaluating non-nuclear air-delivered systems. It’s a serious job that over 4,500 military personnel and 8,500 civilians take very seriously, many of whom call Valparaiso home.
Pete Moore Mitsubishi is proud to be a neighbor to Eglin Air Force Base and all of its service members.
