It’s important to cover all your bases when your day-to-day activities revolve around your car. There’s quite a bit of maintenance that goes into keeping your car in top shape, making it easy to forget to change your oil now and then. Changing your oil should be at the top of your maintenance priority list and here are a few reasons why.
Oil plays three key roles in your engine no matter your speed. The engine is full of moving parts that have to work in harmony. Oil makes that happen via lubrication. Constant explosions within the engine’s cylinders generate heat and oil carries some of that heat away. Lastly, oil helps prevent carbon and varnishes from building up.
Forgetting to change your oil once isn’t an enormous deal but if you forget frequently, it could become a problem. Carbon and varnishes could begin to build up on the cooler parts of the engine, like the crankcase. Sludge could also form and you’re in for an expensive engine cleaning if you want to get rid of it.
Even worse, your camshafts and pistons could take damage. Either of those bills would make a year’s worth of oil changes look like pennies. To find out more about the importance of changing your oil, or other service related issues, contact our Service Department at Pete Moore Mitsubishi.
